I’ve been on quite the blogging hiatus since moving back in January, but rest assured I’m back at it for the long haul. I’ll be leading off with some of my favorite bedding and mattress options. A lot of you have been asking me in my DMs for recommendations, so I’m here with all the details on everything bedding. I have a lot of bedding brands I love, and some of them are big names (read: Serena & Lily, Pine Cone Hill, The Company Store, Lull and Annie Selke is even running a 20% off President’s Weekend Sale!), but today I want to focus on the smaller brands that you likely haven’t heard of. Here are my favorite (under the radar) bedding and mattress brands that you’re going to want to know about:

My girl Jenasie (@msviciousdesign) introduced me to Avocado a few months ago and raved about her mattress from them. I was looking for a mattress for our new guest bedroom, so I reached out to Avocado to see if they’d be willing to send one my way. Avocado was a company I was excited to get behind. This small mattress shop is based in California and is dedicated to sustainability (a rarity for a mattress brand). Each mattress is handmade with 100% organic materials and the company boasts a carbon negative business model. Avocado is even aspiring to be the “world’s first zero waste mattress factory.” So, a mattress that’s good for your health? Check! A mattress that’s good for the planet? Check! But is it comfortable?
Yes! Avocado mattresses can be purchased with or without the pillow top, so if you prefer to have a more plush mattress, opt for that pillow top. I personally prefer a more firm mattress, so I opted out of the pillow top. My ultimate review for the firmness of the mattress is that, even without the pillow top, the mattress isn’t super firm. I weigh in around 135 pounds and it’s a perfect firmness for me, but I’d imagine for a larger person it would be more on the plush side.
So, if you’re into sustainability, supporting small business, purchasing organic materials and plush to semi-firm mattresses, Avocado is one hundred percent your brand! Their price point is also affordable (considering the organic materials and handmade nature of the products), with their mattresses falling in the $1-$2k range.

Kip & Co. has long been one of my favorite brands for linen sheets. This Australian brand has had a USA branch of their company for several years now, and their high quality bedding is pretty much the exact opposite of boring. Looking for beige linen sheets? Kip & Co. is NOT your spot. Perhaps my favorite bedding set of all-time (shown above) hails from Kip & Co. (unfortunately they no longer carry that set), but so many more fun patterns can be found on their site. The linen is incredibly soft and gets softer with each wash. Overall, I can’t say enough wonderful things about this small Aussie shop.

The Citizenry also excels in the linen bedding arena, but their lines are much more subdued. If you’re looking for some seriously chic and sophisticated bedding that will look just as good with your bed unmade as it will made, The Citizenry is your spot. I’ve also dabbled in pillows for my bed from The Citizenry (the lumbar above and the larger Euro-sized pillows in the featured image), and they’re not only incredibly soft and comfortable, but come with both and insert AND a zipper. With so many brands cutting corners these days, it feels like a luxury to not have to spend an extra $50 for an insert AND to be able to wash the covers, ensuring they’ll be long-lasting.
Riley recently sent me some sateen sheets and a coverlet for our guest bed and I was super impressed with how soft they were when I took them out to wash them this week. Riley makes most of their bedding in Portugal, but cuts out the middleman and offers relatively affordable bedding to the US market. Riley doesn’t have a ton of options to choose from, but I was impressed with the quality of the bedding they sent my way and very much want to try their reversible flannel sheet set next!

Piglet in Bed isn’t cheap, but it sure is luxurious. If you haven’t noticed, I have a bit of an obsession with linen bedding. I’m always freezing and Billy is always boiling, and I find linen is the only material that keeps me warm and keeps him cool (don’t ask me how linen accomplishes such an impossible feat because I truly don’t know). This British brand offers some really classic and beautiful options. If you’re looking to treat yourself to some beautiful bedding that is sure to last for years, Piglet in Bed is a wonderful choice. I received a duvet cover and linen sheets from Piglet in Bed last year for Josie’s bed and she loves them just as much as I do. I can’t say enough about this luxury bedding brand from across the pond.

Thank you for sharing! I am take notes about the mattress 💓💓💓.
Thanks Gladys! I always love getting behind sustainable companies!
Having slept on the Avocado mattress, I can attest to it being very comfortable.❤
It really is, right? 🙌
It does sound like a quality mattress, but we can’t afford something that expensive, especially if we are buying more than 1 for our family. I’ll definitely save up for it
